In a world of fast fashion, thrift shopping is something that continues to stay on trend. Turkey is one country in particular where clothes manufacturing is a major industry. That said, Istanbul has plenty of thrift shops around the city as well. In this blog post, I’ll share three thrift shops to take into consideration on your next trip to Istanbul, Turkey.
1. Hurda Vintage and Thrift Shop – Rasimpaşa, Uzun Hafız Sk. no:109, 34716 Kadıköy/İstanbul, Türkiye.
Firstly, I visited Hurda Vintage and Thrift Shop. This was my first thrift shop visit in Istanbul and it took me back at least 20 years with the selection of clothing they had on offer. Describing itself as a ‘lazy and cool boys company’, baseball shirts from the USA along with football jerseys from the UK and Turkey were a regular feature. In addition, there were loads of different jackets and designs to choose from.
All clothes were well looked after and the staff have no problem with you trying things on for fit. Also, they have shoes and other accessories to choose from. Another novelty I enjoyed at Hurda Vintage and Thrift Shop was the arcade machine. I could have easily spent longer there just playing Street Fighter alone.
2. Becolis – Rasimpaşa, Beydağı Sk No:19, 34716 Kadıköy/İstanbul, Türkiye.
With two floors, Becolis definitely had the greatest range of vintage clothing and products on offer of the shops I visited. Not only did this thrift shop have clothes for all genders, it had a wide range of accessories and household items, too. If you’re looking for a greater variety of items to choose from, Becolis will be your top pick. Of course, while the variety differs, so will the quality. Regardless, everything is fit for sale. Use your best judgement on whether it’s the best deal for you.
3. Thrift Moda – Caferağa, Şinasi Efendi Sk. No: 1 D:C, 34710 Kadıköy/İstanbul, Türkiye.
Last on my thrift shop list is Thrift Moda. Don’t let the size of this shop fool you! There is a great selection of high quality clothing on offer. Some items didn’t even look pre-owned, if I’m being honest. T-shirts, jackets, trousers and caps from various brands are available. Carhartt, Nascar, Levi’s, Dickies and Supreme are a few examples. Staff were friendly and if you’re unable to make a trip to Istanbul or Miami where they have another store, you can check out their online store here.
