Wave Jams is a new music event to get under way in Shanghai with several events taking place as part of the Shanghai Lavender Festival until June 2nd. However, there will be further events through to October 2024. It takes place at Shanghai Lavender Park, which is located right next to Disneyland Shanghai. In this post, I’ll share what to expect if you plan a visit to Wave Jams at Shanghai Lavender Park in the near future.
Getting to Shanghai Lavender Park from Downtown Shanghai
Shanghai Lavender Park is just a 30 minute Didi ride from downtown. You can also take the subway on Line 11 to Disney Resort, leaving via Exit 3. It’s on location at the Disneyland Resort, but you don’t need to buy a ticket to Disneyland to enter. You can buy tickets directly on SmartTicket.cn here. Entry is 199RMB.
The park itself is huge. I walked about 300m towards the park from my drop off point and took a right. Look for the Big Buyer sign in the distance and you’ll be in the right direction. Your ticket will be checked and you’ll be allowed entry. It was very straightforward.
What to Expect at Shanghai Lavender Park
The park itself is very spacious and family friendly. There are multiple different gardens, full of various plants and flowers. However, there’s also an insane amount of grass space to put down deck chairs, tents, and rugs as you wait for the music to begin.
If you have any frisbees, balls, etc. you can take them along with you as well. This is a relatively new concept for me but music in the park events are very common in North America. Music starts at 6:15pm so you could spend your afternoon here before the music starts if you wanted.
The Acts at Wave Jams
The acts for this first Wave Jams events are Vietnamese RnB artist Demxntia. He’s joined by LA based Cozy Boy and fellow hip-hop artist Dion Dugas. Expect a range of chilled out tunes, further adding to the entire vibe of the event.
Vendors at Wave Jams
There are plenty of different food and beverage vendors on location at Shanghai Lavender Park. Expect to see Charlie’s Burger, KRU Shanghai, Cantina, Oatly and many more. Personally, I’m a burger fan so naturally I tried one on offer from Charlie’s.
Who Would I Recommend Wave Jams To?
Wave Jams at Shanghai Lavender Park is a great escape from downtown Shanghai and if you’re looking for an open space to chill out for an afternoon/evening. That being said, I can imagine that if you had planned a trip to Disneyland Shanghai and you were staying nearby, you could visit Shanghai Lavender Park after spending the day in Disneyland.
There’s no need to go downtown to enjoy some of Shanghai’s popular food and beverage options. During my time there I saw people of all different ages.
