Hostel Review: Rucksack Inn, Temple Street | Singapore.

There’s no denying that Singapore is an expensive country in comparison to the rest of Southeast Asia. If you’re looking for a budget friendly accommodation option for your next trip to Singapore, Rucksack Inn on Temple Street in Singapore might be the one for you. On a recent trip to Singapore, I spent a few days here. In this post, I’ll go through check-in, the room and facilities on offer.

Location and Check-In

Rucksack Inn is located at 52 Temple Street in Chinatown, Singapore. If you’re taking the MRT, it’s a short walk from the Chinatown stop. Click here to take a look on Google Maps. It’s fairly visible from the outside and secure as you need a code to enter. When I arrived, I had to wait for a few minutes as nobody was at reception, but I got in eventually. Once I gave my passport information, the receptionist gave me a quick tour and showed me to my dorm room.

The Room

I stayed in a six-bed dorm during my stay. To be very honest, it served its purpose of providing me with a bed for a few nights while I explored Singapore. There weren’t any windows in my room but the air-conditioning worked and also there was a locker to store my bag. The other guests in my room were European, from France and Germany. I had a chat with one of them but everyone mostly did their own thing. I feel like you could definitely make friends here if you wanted.

The Facilities

There is a communal common area located at the front of the hostel which is also the kitchen and dining area. You can store food in the fridge and get work done if you need to as well, but be prepared for a lot of people coming and going.

Additionally, washrooms are a make or break for many when they go to hostels. The bathrooms are located outside of the dorm rooms and they’re completely split up. There are toilet cubicles on one end, followed by mirrors and sinks, and lastly some showers down the other end. When I was there, there wasn’t too much of a wait. Be prepared for a bit of moving around the place (and potentially being in view from the entrance). I’m quite tall, and the showers were a tight squeeze in particular but they did the job.
