Dolmabache Palace, Istanbul | What to Expect

Are you planning a visit to Istanbul in Turkey any time soon? In this post, I’ll share everything I can about my time at Dolmabache Palace in Istanbul. Personally, this was one of my favourite places to explore during my time in Istanbul. I think it’s a must-visit location! Keep reading to find out more information so that you can be best prepared if you decide to visit. I’ll share the latest opening times, ticket prices and what you can expect you visit. Just a head’s up, I’m not a historian and nothing in this post will tell you about its incredible history, but click here if that’s what you’re looking for.

What are Dolmabache Palace’s Opening Times and Ticket Prices?

Although it’s closed Mondays, Dolmabache Palace is open from 9pm-4pm Tuesday to Sunday. You can walk through security upon entry. It’s located on the bottom of the road by Besiktas stadium. It’s a long queue to the ticket office but it moved relatively in approximately quickly 15-20 minutes.

Tickets cost 1050 TL per person (if you’re a foreigner). If you’re a Turkish citizen, it might be cheaper as it was when I visited. However, prices have changed and I couldn’t find any new information online. In addition, there is a fast track option for an extra fee of 1500TL for foreigners. This will give you access to the main palace, the harem and the pavilion rooms.

There is also a free audio guide available if you’re from Turkey, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Spain, France, Hungary, Greece, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, China, South Korea, Japan, India, Pakistan, Iran, Ukraine and Bulgaria. However, you need to make sure to bring your passport.

No Photos Inside the Palace

Dolmabache Palace has continued to ensure that no photos are allowed inside its buildings. During my time there, they were incredibly vigilant and consistent by stopping tourists who made any attempt to take a snap. Personally, I was glad this wasn’t allowed as everyone was a lot more present and appreciating their surroundings. Myself included!

Outside the Palace

Finally, I was greeted by the beautiful Bhosporus upon exiting the palace. You can keep walking and you’ll see the museum of painting which has free entry along with a WC and a café. There are plenty of photo opportunities at at the gates by the river as well. Afterwards, you can visit the harem which is included in the ticket price.
