Starting off in Chinatown, Singapore

Firstly, you can start off by visiting Fuk Tai Chi which is one of Singapore’s oldest Chinese temples and now is home to the Amoy Hotel. You can check it out here if you’re interested in staying there.

Then, head towards Thian Hock Keng Temple which is a common place of worship in the area. It was closed when I visited. However, the interiors are well-known for their beauty and I could also smell the incense from outside.

From Thian Hock Keng Temple, you can walk to the Maxwell Centre and try the famous chicken rice and observe many locals get their dinner after work. You can read more about Uncle Louis Famous Chicken Rice which is 1 of 10 places to eat and drink in Singapore I wrote about here.

After You Eat at the Maxwell Centre in Chinatown, Singapore

After visiting the Maxwell Centre, take a walk towards Sri Mariamman Temple where many Hindu people go to worship. Visitors are welcome once appropriately dressed and they cannot go past a certain point.

When you leave, walk down Pagoda Street. I was told there is a former Coolie House at 37 Pagoda Street which is where many slaves were traded. However, when I visited a local shop owner told me it was gone. Next, I walked further down this bustling street to Chinatown Heritage Centre but sadly it was closed for renovations.

Sago Lane was my next stop and the lanterns all lit up along outside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple were a great sight and photo opportunity.

The End of Your Time Exploring Chinatown, Singapore

This will then take you to the Chinatown complex with plenty of shops, stalls and locals playing board games and onto your next adventure in Singapore. Personally, I decided to get some waffles and ice-cream at Ri Ri Cha which is located nearby. This is another place I wrote about here. I’d recommend a stop here if you can find a seat!

Monster Day Tours

I’ll be very honest, I had great intentions of doing a walking tour with Monster Day Tours, but the times didn’t work out for me. I’m not getting any sponsorship or money from them but they offer free walking tours which are tip based.

A lot of the places I visited are based off of their recommendations on their site. If you can join one of their tours, you’ll have a guide with you along the way, rather than needing to infer for yourself.

Thanks for Reading!

I hope that you enjoyed reading this post and that it gives you some ideas if you decide to visit Singapore in the future (or if you’re already there and you’re looking for somewhere new).

I would really enjoy wandering around here and taking in all the sights you shared here. It’s great to be able to soak up the atmosphere and trying the chicken and rice sounds like a great way to do that!

Yes, I had a great time there! I would recommend going in the late afternoon when it’s a little bit cooler. I found Singapore to be very hot and humid (with some showers in between!).
