Are you interested in getting an amazing city view for free? If so, keep reading. In this blog post, I will tell you how to get to the Xiangshan Hiking Trail and up to the top of Elephant Mountain.

Getting there
First of all, take the Taipei MRT to Xiangshan. It’s the last stop on the Tamsui–Xinyi red line.
When you arrive, take exit 2. It’s an 8 minute walk to the start of the hiking trail and it’s clearly signposted.

How long does it take climb Elephant Mountain?
From the start, it’s on average 18 minutes up with different viewpoints. Also, if you have a good level of fitness, you’ll be fine. If you don’t, there’s a rail and four or five different view points where you can stop and take a break.

In addition, you will definitely sweat, regardless of the weather. Furthermore, I would recommend bringing a spare t-shirt if you don’t want to feel wet and sticky afterwards.

When is the best time to go to Elephant Mountain?
Whether you want to visit during the day or night, the views are beautiful. Personally, I preferred this to going to Taipei 101 itself. That said, I would make sure to do when it isn’t cloudy to get the best visibility.

Going back down Elephant Mountain
On the way back down, it was night-time. The paths were well lit which made doing down very easy. Just keep an eye on your footing as you go back down.
