Mangrove River Tour, Langkawi. | Malaysia

One of the things that Langkawi in Malaysia is known for is its mangroves. It’s a very popular excursion to visit the mangroves as well. In this blog post, I’ll share all about my experience and what you might be able to expect if you decide to go on a mangrove tour in Langkawi.

Once I arrived from my accommodation, I paid 250 MYR for a one hour trip (I was caught for time), I got into a boat which I ended up having to myself. I received a recommendation for Ombak Karisma Enterprise from another visitor which you can see more about here. Firstly, we went past a fish farm for a few minutes but I was told to stay put.

Next, we went past Gorilla Mountain. They say the mountain looks like King Kong (it does as you get closer). After that, we stopped to view eagles. According to the guide, Mustafa, Langkawi is named after the eagles.

The next stop was to a monkey area. Mustafa said if you have bananas, they’ll swim! I didn’t feed them and they looked so peaceful and undisturbed in their surroundings. Another stop on the tour was to a crocodile cave. Spoiler alert! There are no crocodiles here but one of the rocks outside looks like one and that’s why it has its name.

Afterwards, we passed a fish farm, some kayakers and headed towards the Andaman Sea. There’s an island called Shoe Island because it’s shaped like a shoe. You can see Thailand in the distance which is 55 mins away by boat. It’s common for visitors to travel from Koh Lipe in Thailand to Langkawi in Malaysia.

The last stop on the tour was to a fish farm. All the fish are then cooked at the restaurant. I opted not to eat as I had to catch a flight but the tour ended just over an hour later. I would definitely recommend this if you plan a trip to Langkawi!

I hope that this post was of some use. A mangrove tour is worth doing, but I don’t know how keep I would be spending several hours on it. If you liked this post, you may like some of my other posts about Malaysia.

This is brilliant to see and read about how much you saw during just an hour trip! It sounds like a fabulous experience, even more so as you didn’t have to share the boat. I love the names for all the different places. Thanks for sharing, sounds like you had a great time!
