Penang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit spot for many people travelling through Southeast Asia. One of the highest rated places to visit in town is Penang Peranakan Mansion. It’s one of several mansions in Penang which contributes to the town’s heritage. Keep reading to find out more about what to expect if you decide to visit.

Entry to Penang Peranakan Mansion
Once you entry, the cost is 25MYR. As Penang and Malaysia in general are very hot, it’s important to know that this mansion is very well air conditioned! After you pay, you’ll start off by walking through the ground floor where there is a dining area and living quarters. Next, I went upstairs where you must remove your shoes before going up.
Upstairs at Penang Peranakan Mansion
As you continue, there are several bedrooms here including the bridal chambers and a balcony overlooking the courtyard. In addition, there were many photographers (professional and boyfriends/partners) taking photos of well dressed visitors and couples who were about to get married.
Next on the landing there were more seating areas. Take note that there are signs everywhere saying that it was sold if you break anything. To be fair, everything in the mansion is ornamental. As you go back downstairs, there is another courtyard and artefacts of cultural significance as well as what looks like an area for games. Furthermore, this mansion was visited by King Charles and Queen Camilla during their visit to Penang in 2017.
Finally, there’s a restaurant called Nyonya’s Kitchen at the end of the visit along with an unpublished collection of Chinese embroidery and beadwork from Baba Peter Soon. It’s the top rated place to visit in Penang and it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Thanks for reading! I can assure you that there is a need for it to be air-conditioned if they want people to visit!
This was so interesting to read as I know too little about visits and staying in parts of Malaysia. There seems to be some incredible places to visit (and try to keep cool in, which it sounds like it’s needed).
